Tour de France
Tips for cyclists attending
-
Get there early
If you want to cycle climbs on the mountain days, you'll need to make sure you get to the top at least 3 hours before the pros are scheduled to get there. Around this time, the gendarmes step out and prevent everyone from cycling (and they could be located every 50 metres on the climbs). You'll still be allowed to walk to your preferred spot, but that's not so fun in cleats.
- Stock up at the boulangerie
If you are setting out to do one of the climbs as part of your day out (and you want to get to the top), pack enough snacks and water for 6-8 hours..
- Pack for the conditions
Obviously if it's a stunning day (and most days we've attended have been great) then you could well be 'taps aff' at the top of the mountains and hoping you remembered your sun cream. But if the forecast isn't showing 20+ degrees and sunshine, then make sure to pack some waterproofs and warmer layers. Weather in the mountains can be changeable (and we've had some very wet days). Pack accordingly!
- Bring a backpack (or panniers)
Hopefully you'll have some polkadot merch to carry home.
